SECOND PEDALS take home the 3rd Brum SOUP investment!

There was no sign of the January blues at yesterday’s Brum SOUP. 4 great pitches, 2 lovely soups, a killer chocolate cake and a brilliant crowd made for a lovely afternoon.

This month’s projects pitching for the investment included; a project with students at Bournville College who are making postcards to sell and raise money for homeless charity St Basil’s, performer Swingerella whose ‘Goddess Foundation’ aims to help women who have suffered domestic violence by facilitating poetry workshops, and Vicky from Therapies 4 Autism who was offering 1-to-1 sessions with parents who have children with autism.

It was Second Pedals who won the most votes at yesterday’s Birmingham SOUP and took home £332 towards their project.

Second Pedals is a bike regeneration project that provides recycled bicycles and group cycling activities. The bicycles are acquired through donations from members of the community. Second Pedals aim to improve mental wellbeing and encourage healthier lifestyles through accessibility and affordability.

They will use the money from SOUP to buy much needed bicycle repair supplies brake & gear cables, puncture kits, inner tubes and tools.

We wish them well in their venture and look forward to having them back at a future SOUP to give us an update.

We’d like to THANK Impact Hub Birmingham for hosting us, thanks to Asda Cape Hill for their generous food donation that went on to create the two lovely soups and thanks to Loaf for their very generous gift of gorgeous bread.

We’re now on the hunt for more project ideas – if you have an idea/venture/project/plan that you think would benefit the Birmingham community then why not put in a pitch? The online form is really easy and you have until Friday 5th February, 12 noon.
